Rv water heaters Electric Camper will not run appliances on 30 amp?
We have a 2006 travel trailer that always blows a breaker when the A/C, fridge, and water heater are on electric. We have to be careful with A/C only and then add a skillet, or coffeepot, or hair dyer. I'm told we should be able to run the A/C, fridge and water heater on 30 amp service at rv parks with no problem. (Others we travel with have no problem) What can we do to improve the use? Fridge and water heater can run off propane but since we are paying for electric we like to use it...
It is easy to calculate your amp usage and based on that see if you get enough amps, just keep in mind that the weakest link(breaker) in the system will blow. So if your main RV breaker is 30Amp, and the camping one is 20, you have 20Amp to use.
Now if you look onto all your appliances, it will give you the power consumption in Watt (W), kilowatt (kW), sometimes also referred to as VA or kVA.
The amps used at a certain time is the sum of all power consumptions in watt (or VA) + sum of all power consumption in KW or kVA times thousand.
Then divide that figure by the voltage (110V in US, 230V in EU).
That will give you a rough Idea of the Amps drawn at that moment.
If you are way under that, either the breaker is "tired" and need to be replaced, or you have something going on on yuor high voltage circuit. If that is the case I would have it checked out by a professional as this could lead to bigger problems like fire or electrocution!
Hope this helps!

Used Rv water heater Anyone with a RV (toy hauler) that could give me reasons why my water heater will not heat?
I just used my toy hauler this past weekend and it worked fine then. I've never had any problems with it since I've had it (2yrs). I needed to use it this morning, because my water heater at my house for some reason does not work either. So I'm waiting for the gas company on that one! But I have no clue as to why my water heater in my trailer does not work. The light that indicates that it's on, or is heating, did turn on. As a matter of fact, it hasn't turned off!! It usually turns off when the water is heated (i think), but this morning, it didn't do that. It is still cold and has been for about 3 hours now. Could anyone possibly help me out, and give me some reasons why it may not be working, or if I may be doing something wrong, or still need to dosomething to get it to turn on and start heating my water? I would appreciate it very much!
dont know much about rvs but if a hot water heater doasnt heat it is usually due to a bad heating element. i changed these in my old house trailer before.

Rv water heaters Propane How do I operate my propane water heater in my 1979 coachman RV?
Before you turn on anything that could blow up, fill it with water, pressurise it, and check for leaks. Next, go to each faucet, turn the hot water valve, and let run till all the air leaves the system. With that done, turn on your propane valve, (assuming it is full), and if you smell strong or even slight propane odor, turn it off. With that handeled, and finding no leaks, go to the hot water heater . You will find a valve marked 'off', 'on', and pilot , meaning pilot light. Put in the pilot position. Usually you have to push down on the switch, or a valve close by. Now, remember all the lines are emty, and you are going to have to hold that down for quite awhile. (Short Cut). Take a cressent wrench, and just crack the line going into the main valve. It is usually a 3/4 in. fitting. Leave the line cracked loose till you can hear and smell the propane coming threw. DO NOT do this inside. Tighten the fitting, put a little dish soap around it to be sure is isn't leaking. If it bubbles at all, tighten it more. Give it some time to clear itself of excess propane, 15 to 20 minutes or so. Most have a stricker to light the pilot light. READ the instructions in the cover if their still there. Hold down the gas valve switch for a few seconds, and hit the stricker. Watch threw the glass to see if it lights. If not, wait a few more seconds and try again, and again, until the gas gets to the valve, and lights. Once it does light, you have to hold the valve down for about 30 seconds to allow the thermocupler to get hot enouigh to maintain the pilot light. Let the valve up slowly, and if the pilot starts to die out, hold it down a little longer. It will evenually stay lite, unless the cupler is bad. If it dont light, you will need to go to the hardware store and get a new thermocupler. When it does light turn the valve to the ON possition, and happy camping.

How can I find another propane company who still delivers to RVs? Need help soon!?
I have the money to buy more propane now, but I do *not* have the money to buy a whole conversion kit to make it so I can attach a portable tank to my RV. It is my only place of living and it is still very cold here, plus I can't cook or have hot water without it (and electric heaters don't cut it; not even close!) I'm a bit panicked here. I have 1/4 tank left which will not last long and I have called every single company in the phone book. Nobody delivers to RVs now because the tanks attached to them are too small for them to make profit with the damned gas prices! These can't be my only options. Where else can I look? Conversion kits cost upwards of $150, which I will not have before this runs out, plus I will have to pay someone to install it for me and then the actual tank is $40, if I want the smallest one which will have me driving to refill it once or twice a week. I work two jobs, and have applied for cash assistance, but I can't get a big enough loan for it either. Help!
I had this problem in AZ... I'm not sure why you need a conversion...I was able to hook a small tank to my hookup when I couldn't afford to have my huge tank filled, which was often when it was just me and my kids. Have a trusted neighbor guy look at your set up and determine if you can do it that way. Sorry about your situation. I hope you get it taken care of quick!
