Smaller fridges in Britain?

Watched a few "BritComs" on TV lately and noticed when they show a kitchen, the 'fridge is always way small, like you see in an RV. Is it common in EU to have smaller food refrigerators? Can't get more than a couple days perishables in them, I'm used to 26 CuFt where you can get a months groceries in there! Anyone know?

I don't know, maybe that's why america has an obesity problem.
Bigger fridg's mean more food. and less exercise.

Can I use regular household appliances rather than RV appliances?

I am going to be converting an old school bus into an RV-type vehicle for my family and I to travel in. I am trying to keep costs down as much as possible, and have found that RV appliances are a little pricey. Can anyone (especially someone with RV experience, please) tell me whether or not I can buy standard household appliances (stove, refrigerator, etc.) in place of RV appliances. If I do are there any drawbacks, etc? Also, I will most likely be using a combination of solar and wind power as my main energy source--would there be any additional info I would need to know?

The biggest drawback to using household appliances in your converted school bus is that they are not designed to be operated on the power sources you will have available while driving.... That is 12V DC electricity, or propane gas.

RV refrigerators are normally "dual-fuel" appliances that can operate equally well on propane gas or on 12V DC. Your average household fridge needs 120V AC electricity, so you would not be able to use it while on the road. Household refrigerators also have cooling coils that may not hold up to the vibration experienced in an RV as it is traveling down the road.

You could use a gas range in your bus, but you would have to convert it from natural gas to propane. A household range would take up a lot of space in the relatively small RV kitchen. I would suggest using a 2 or 3 burner gas cooktop, and a 12V microwave oven for your cooking needs.

What type refrigerator for service truck? 12vdc or 120vac using inverter unit?

Outfitting new service truck/home away from home. Should I look at 12vdc style as in RV or go 120vac with inverter unit ? Small refrig. just for long day comfort food. Truck is set-up with largest cap. single battery / with highest output alternator. All advice more than welcome. Thanks.

we took the compressor motor out and took it to a electric motor place
they pull all the motor coil wire out and replace it with ne coil wire

tey made a 12 volt motor no more 120v and it work great
this was a small unit
later we got a freezer box that works on propane gas
a bbq tank last about 2 months

good luck

we try the inverter idea and it will beep all the time and somethimes did't start the unit and this was 2000 watts

Travel Trailer Refrigerator?

Can I buy/use a Compact refrigerator from, say, Home Depot or Lowe's, in lieu of one from an RV surplus store (Camping World). I'm looking at a $800 difference.

My husband I and completely re-furbishing a travel trailer we just bought and the existing refrigerator is VERY old and outdated.

As stated above, the travel trailer refrigerators are better designed for the rv's because they can be run on the propane gas, the battery, and regular electricity draw. This means your food stays cool when travelling.

Camping for most people means a tent and sleeping on a mat on the ground. If that doesn't really appeal to you, then camping in an RV is what you need. It is the ultimate camping adventure.

RV's come in many sizes and shapes. They start with campers that fit in the back of a pickup truck. These can have full kitchens, beds, a shower and toilet in them.

Next there are van conversions called Class B motorhomes that are basically a cargo van converted into a camping vehicle. These can have a raised roof for more head room. They also contain the same amenities as the truck camper.

Next up is the Class C motorhome. The front end looks like a pickup truck, but the similarity ends there. There is a sleeper extension over the cab and the back end looks like any motorhome you are probably familiar with. Basically a cargo box with windows, but much prettier. The Class C has all the amenities of home. A kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and living room. You could live in a Class C.

The next step us is the Class A motorhome. This is roomiest of all motorized RVs. These motorhomes are like a mini one bedroom apartment. They are fully self contained. From the queen sized bed to the dinette that seats four people you find luxury. A refrigerator and stove are complimented by a microwave oven. You might even have an ice maker capable of making over 20 pounds of ice a day. Party ready!

If that weren't enough choices, there are still the trailers. First is the travel trailer you can pull behind a larger sedan or SUV. Then the 5th wheel trailer that hooks into the back of a pickup truck. Both of these trailers are equally as luxuriant as the best motorhome. An advantage is they cost a lot less.

You can buy new or used. Whichever way you choose, you should do a lot of research on the internet first. Learn all you can about RVing. There are RV forums that you can find by doing a search in your favorite search engine.

When you decide that an RV might be for you, attend an RV show or two. There are major RV shows at fairgrounds and stadiums where many dealers and vendors are selling every type of RV there is. There are also local RV shows usually put on by one or two dealers to show and sell some of their inventory.

If you really are not sure you would like to spend $40,000 or $250,000 on a hobby you are not sure you would like, buy a used RV. You can get into RVing in a 34 foot used Class A motorhome for under $10,000.

The older and larger the motorhome the less fuel efficient it will be. You may get 5 to 7 miles per gallon on many older motorhomes. 7-9 mpg is realistic for mid 1990's motorhomes and up to 12 miles a gallon on new ones.

Camping in an RV is a fun adventure awaiting you and your family.

There is nothing like spending a vacation at our favorite destination away from the hustle and bustle of the place we live in, but still experiencing the amenities of our very own residence. Traveling has become an important part of our lifestyle; be it for business needs, for touring purpose, for camping or for any other recreational activity, we want our traveling experience to be both comfortable and economical. This is where a recreational vehicle satisfies our needs.

When it comes to touring or spending a holiday, the first thing we need to look for is an accommodation at the destination. We can never be sure of the quality of service offered in the various lodges/ hotels around that specific place, and might end up compromising with low-end services. We all have different lifestyles, which more often these lodges fail to offer. Traveling in a Motor home not only saves the cost of renting an accommodation but also let's us match up to our own unique lifestyle without any compromises.

An RV mobile home comes with comfortable living room along with beds, bathrooms, refrigerator and a fully functional kitchen. Larger and high end RVs offers benefits like satellite television, Internet usage, slide out sections and awnings. A recreational vehicle offers the freedom to cook and eat whatever we want, sleep or relax whenever we feel to do so and even have a nice bath whenever the need arises.

RVs are essentially of two types a) Motorhomes b) Towable RVs. The first type being motor homes/ mobile homes which offers an all-inclusive transportation and comfortable living experience. They come in different styles and sizes designed to match up to the varied lifestyles of different consumers. They range from van campers to large and luxurious motorhomes. The various amenities being offered are dependent on the size and cost of these motorhomes. A RV motorhome typically costs more than a towable recreational vehicle but saves the consumer from having a second vehicle serving as a towing vehicle.

Towable RVs typically have a pick up truck attached to a recreational vehicle. Truck campers, travel trailers, fifth wheel trailers belong to the class of towable recreational vehicles.

Buying a RV mobile home completely depends on the consumer's need and affordability. However while purchasing a motor home the consumer should ensure whether it offers optimum storage facilities along with desired comfort level. People who are into too much of traveling and require longer stays away from home should ideally go in for a high end RV that offers added benefits like more storage facilities and other recreational media. On the other hand people going out for short drives might settle for a smaller RV that provides all the basic amenities.

Mobile homes are the best choice for people who spend most of their time traveling around. The demand of RV mobile homes is on a rise, among which Motor homes account for a larger market share as compared to travel trailers. In the coming years RV consumers will evidently look for more amenities and an even better home like feel while purchasing the RV of their choice.

My LP Gas Leak Detector keeps going off, why?

I own a fleetwood travel trailer, 2006 and the LP GAS LEAK DETECTOR Pre Tell 26 by CCI Controls goes off at least 1-2 times per week. The detector I have is brown and horizontal, it has the Green Operating light which is always on when the RV is in use and the Red Alarm light which is the light that turns on, and also the green Fault light which has not yet turned on at all. In small letters under the Fault Light are the words (Low Voltage). The red alarm light turns on normally around 8 or 9AM but no propane smell. Why would their be if the tanks are empty and disconnected? The propane tanks are empty and the batterries are disconnected because I don't need to use them right now. I do have my RV plugged in only to use my TV and Refrigerator every once in a while (Nothing is wrong with my electrical source/connection).

This is typical of a trailer in storage.
Usually it means your trailer battery is running down
and your LP detector is going off due to low voltage.
IE- it's not detecting gas, it's giving a low battery
alarm.
Nearly all travel trailers will drain the battery(s) while
in storage unless you have a battery disconnect switch
or simply pull off a battery lead at the battery post.
This can happen in as little as a month-- dead battery.

But you say your trailer is plugged in???
Are you sure it is. IE the breaker feeding the outlet you
are plugged into could be tripped.
If you have items in the trailer that use household current
and they are working, then it's possible the LP detector
is detecting something else.

LP detectors will detect other gases than just LP.
If your trailer is closed up tight for the winter, it's possible
the LP detector is going off due to outgassing of the glue
in the plywood or paneling or foam cushions in the trailer.
Try leaving a vent open or crack a window for some fresh
air.

It's also possible your power center is not charging the
battery as it should.
Sorry, that one is pretty hard to trouble shoot over the
internet. It could be time to get a friend to check the
battery voltage with a meter, or do it yourself.

Don't over look the obvious-- your LP tanks are shut
off right????

Finally-- if you are positive it can't be LP and you don't
have batteries connected and there is no other possible
source of gas--
remember it will detect most any gas--, why not just pull the LP detector fuse out of
the fuse box and forget it until you actually have LP gas
and are going camping.

Last suggestion and not just for laughs.... it has been reported
on other RV chat groups that a large dog laying on the floor
next to the LP detector can set it off with a fart.
No kidding.....

Good luck!
KyDan
