How many Watts portable generator will work with this a/c unit, or which other option we have to make this unit work other then 110V exterior outlet? Thank you
Ohms law is how you convert amps to watts. To find watts you take AMPS x VOLTS so in this case I am assuming a 120 volt system its 120 x 14.1 = 1692 watts. That is the full load, not the start up / inrush / peak rating.

Portable Generator problem. It will not charge battery in RV, or run appliances.?
It is a 4000watt contractor professional model#gen4000/03237. Engine is a 5hp and runs great, but it does'nt run anything in RV anymore. We thought it was maybe something else so we hooked up another generator and that ran everything just fine. I would like to fix if possible but don't know where to start. Or if its even worth fixing. thanks
Unless you are a competent, qualified electrician, your best solution is to take the RV to a service center and have them repair the unit. From what you write, I suspect you have a bad diode feedback board which must be replaced. Typical would be about 4 hours of shop time plus parts. Unlike the usual gen sets that are purchased from HD or L's, a RV unit is a 120 volt and uses the axillary fuel tank on the RV for a fuel source. If this is a unit like a contractor portable unit, then just replace for about $700. Yes the repairs would cost about the same but then you still have a used unit.
A generator is a reliable power source that generates the specified power to be used for home or outdoor use. There are different types of generators that are available for various application needs. The various kinds of generators that are commonly used are portable generators, electric generators, wind generators, RV generators, and emergency generators. Lets understand more about them.
Portable generator:
The portable generator is one of the best models used for home backup or outdoor activities. It has many uses and is capable to deliver required power source for home standby or construction purposes along with outdoor camping or recreations. A portable generator proves to be a wonderful choice as a convenient power source and is handy even outdoors.
Wind generator:
As the name suggests a wind generator is the power source, which converts the wind energy into electricity. This generator is winning the faith of the people as a reliable mode of producing energy for homes and other applications. To charge batteries and to provide a reliable stand-alone power source where grid power is not available, small wind generators or turbines are useful. The wind generator comes in various outputs and sizes and are Designed for all wind speeds, Compact, Efficient, Robust, Light, Maintenance Free, Quiet, Safe, Efficient Brushless alternators, Easy Installation.
The RV generators
RV generators are the one particularly designed for the motor homes or the recreational homes, which is meant for fun and frolic to your outdoor trips to the countryside. These generators come in gas and diesel variants. You can choose from the various models and power options available in these generators. If you want to choose the best then go for the one which starts immediately, makes low noise and is easy to maintain. RV generators are the most reliable generators set for it has low starting time and is easy to maintain. So much that if properly maintained they can outlast the RV. The most important feature of the RV generator is that they don’t require constant attention. Like in any other generator the power source in RV generator requires regular exercise. This has been found that gasoline generators can have fuel related problems if not used even for a month, it is essential for exercising the generator on a monthly basis.
Emergency Generator:
Life is so used to electronic gadgets or electrical appliances that life becomes next to impossible. When suddenly the power goes off for some reason your life may get hampered because of that. In such situation the emergency generator can be of best help. Power loss affects both home and business your most of the work is stranded and sometimes delayed. An emergency generator enables you to have power restored back to your appliances which helps you in many ways hence there are various models of the emergency generators to choose from. The emergency generators are generally powered by propane, natural gas, gasoline or diesel.
You can make the choice of the generator as per your requirement. Before choosing a generator it is essential to go over the list of appliances and equipment you want to run from the generator. This will help you to total the watt required and will help to determine the size of generator you would require. In case if you are opting for the portable generator, never place the generator inside the house.
What is the proper size portable generator to run a small RV?
I have a small weekender quarters in dressing room of horse trailer (ie Roof mounted AC, few 110 volt plugs 4ft florescent light) and am looking to add a portable generator and don't know how many watts I need.
Most AC's will require around 30amps to run correctly. Too little amperage can damage your AC and is hard on other electronic devices such as TV's, computers, microwave etc. I'd recommend at least one that is rated 3500 to 4000. Specially if your hot water heater uses 120 volts while camped (if it can be used on LP then you could get away with a 3500 generator. If you have or can convert your lighting to 12 volts and don't use your AC at all, you could get away with a generator rated at 1000 just to keep the batteries charged.
What is the different between RV generator, mobile generator, home standby generator and portable generator?
I have to distinct between these generator. Do any website provide detail of all type of generator for purpose of study? My main intention is how to differentiate mobile generator from others.
Terminology may vary between manufacturers or dealers, but here is how I interpret the differences.
RV generator is mounted internally to the RV. Remote start, feeds power to selected RV circuits only. It is supplied fuel from the vehicle tank. Typically up to about 8kW.
Mobile generator is trailer mounted, can be much higher power, up to several hundred kilowatts. Fuel tank often mounted on the trailer.
Home standby generator is mounted on a concrete pad to the side of the house. Usually automatic start and transfer. Can be propane, natural gas or diesel powered, seldom gasoline. Power level typically up to about 15kW.
Portable generators are usually mounted with wheels for manually moving place to place. Usually gasoline powered, power levels up to about 15kW. Some have electric start. Electrical connection is via an outlet panel mounted to the frame.
Portable solar energy power stations may sound, to some, like a dream. They can think of many places where portable solar would be useful, such as the RV they love to take camping, or the boat they use for long fishing trips. They cannot imagine, though, that portable solar energy power stations actually do exist.
Portable solar energy power stations have many practical uses, which we will discuss later, but what is portable solar power?
Description of Portable Solar Power
Portable solar power is energy generated from sunlight, the generator being of a size and form that can be moved readily from place to place.
Most portable solar power units use photovoltaic panels (PV panels) in one way or another. Some are amazingly small, and can be carried in a pocket, while others must be moved on a flat-bed trailer or truck.
Examples of Portable Solar Power
You may already be using portable solar power without realizing it. The following are examples of different sizes and styles of portable solar power.
1. Pocket calculators have been using portable solar power for years. Expose the calculator to sunlight, and it stores solar power for use. You can then carry this solar power into a field or up a mountain track.
2. Garden lights, or lights around a swimming pool now use portable solar power. If you want to rearrange your lights, or you decide to carry one as a flashlight, the portable solar power goes with you.
3. A multipurpose portable solar power unit is the fold-out solar panel that can be carried in a case the size of your day planner. Wherever you take it, you can open the panel to charge your cell phone battery, GPS, or other similar "gadget" you carry.
4. "Powerfilm" products are paper-thin PV panels - further examples of portable solar power. These products can be easily carried to charge almost all Lithium, NiCad or NiMH batteries. You can recharge batteries for boom boxes at the beach or while camping. You can recharge your digital camera or camcorder while on a hike. As long as you have sunlight, you have portable solar power.
5. Flexible PV panels, rugged and durable, give portable solar power for hikers and campers. This portable solar power can be rolled up like a sleeping bag, and then set up anywhere. You can drop it, step on it, dampen it while crossing a stream - and it will still give you power.
6. Larger portable solar energy power stations can consist of one or more photovoltaic panels (PV panels), simple wiring for the input jack, and a battery - sometimes referred to as a power pack. A commercially-produced portable solar power unit like this may also include a small fluorescent light, and a connection to your vehicle's cigarette lighter plug.
Examples of Innovative Portable Solar Power
Portable solar energy can, as we said, be carried with you. It can provide electrical energy when you travel to a remote third world village on business. It can provide military units with necessary electrical energy while they are on the move. It can power a small heater in a winter camping tent, or provide a reading light for campers. It is valuable and convenient.
As our demand for that value and convenience increases, portable solar power is becoming more innovative. Portable solar power is being added to clothing and backpacks. It is being added to handbags. You need never worry about cell phones, laptops or other electronics going dead again. Portable solar power is yours to use, anywhere, free.
Did you know about these products? Some are experimental, but others area on the market.
1. If you want "lady-like" portable solar power, you might choose the "Power Purse" as a lovely accessory. This purse is more than an accessory, though. It can power up small electronics. Designed by Joe Hynek in a handbag competition, this little black bag is covered with laminated portable solar power panels. It has a short plastic handle, and can easily be carried anywhere. Imagine the possibilities.
2. But a purse is not always appropriate. If you're stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a field, you might be happy to have the "Juice Bag" backpack on your shoulders. A Juice Bag is a worldwide patented portable solar power backpack. Flexible ballistic nylon solar panels make it lighter than solar bags with stiff glass solar panels. Take off your Juice Bag when you need to recharge items such as cameras, cell phones, or GPS units. It generates electricity in both direct and indirect sunlight.
3. Portable solar power is also available in a cozy jacket with multiple pockets. Hikers, military personnel, and travelers can fill the pockets with cell phone, GPS, laptop, camera, and other electronic devices. Then slip the 3 ounce portable solar power panel into a special holder on the back of the jacket, and you can generate energy for your electronics.
Portable solar energy power stations make use of these ideas and more. They may be large enough to generate sufficient electrical power for a small village, or small enough to be carried by a child. Whichever it is, portable solar power is definitely "on the go" in many places and in many ways.
