Plumbing Vent

Please help. I recently upgraded my plumbing, I cut the cast iron line to the septic and ran all new PVC.?
I ran all new PVC pipes, drains, and traps. I put a 4x2 wye beyond the toilet to run a vent out the roof. I did not cap the wye nor did I run the vent yet. All of the plumbing is under the first floor, it is a crawl space. By not capping off this wye, is that exposing us to sewer gas, is it dangerous, and also, will it hurt to cap that vent for about 2 weeks??
long as you got vent running to celling open your ok.and your s trap is connecred.

anyone know how to install a vent pipe in plumbing?
When my washing machine drains it backs up and overflows out of the hose. I have read that that means the drain pipe isnt vented properly. However I cant find any information on how to install a vent pipe. Any ideas?
Thank you Paul!!
You are assuming it is a venting problem. I would make sure the drain is very clear.
Newer washers pump out 50% faster than the old ones. So the old ones, draining more slowly, would allow the plumbing to restrict some.
I have seen people add pipe to raise the hose higher thus putting more pressure to force water down the drain. The works in some cases. But I would snake the drain or better, have it rotor rooter'ed.
Changing plumbing is a hassle and there should already be a vent there somewhere.
Good luck.

rebuilt 305 with RV cam keeps running hot with no stat, and new water pump and radiator?
i just had a 305 rebuilt with an small RV cam.
started running hot, so here is what i did
replaced water pump.
replaced hoses.
took out thermostat. no stat installed
had radiator checked and rodded.
set the timing several times and no difference.
heats up rather fast and really heats up at speeds
has electric fans and never overheated before.
no bubbles in radiator
no water in oil.
no indications of a blown head gasket.
please help lol
ok well the thermostat did nothing, it is still running way to hot. i made another post wuestion about if my distributor was the problem please look into it if yall have time.
With out a thermostat the coolant doesn't stay in the Radiator long enough to cool down. Put in a 195 thermostat and see how Much better your car runs!

Ok, it’s coming up to the end of the boating season. Winterizing your boat can be expensive, but we know how to ease the pain with savings of at least 10%.
Winterizing a boat can be a pain and burn a hole in your wallet, but here are some easy storage tips for your boat and a great way to save money on boat storage and winterizing supplies.
You can save a lot of money by doing it yourself. The two most important things to consider for winter boat storage are the engine and drives.
Winterizing your boat engine and drive is work. But remember, improperly winterizing will cost you more in the spring! Pick a nice sunny day and proceed.
There are differing opinions on its necessity over a seasonal layup, but I always add fuel stabilizer to my tanks before my last short trip of the season. This will allow it to mix well with the fuel in the tank before it hits the boat storage yard. Save money on this item by buying in bulk. West Marine lets you buy by the case and save over 10%.
Fog your boat engine by revving the engine to about 1500 rpm and spray fogging oil into the carburetor. When the RPMs begin to drop, shut off the engine. This will coat the cylinder walls with oil and prevent corrosion building up over the winter months. Fogging oil is not only frequently a sale item at West Marine, you can use their internet coupons for additional savings.
Change your engine oil after you’ve run your engines. Warm oil flows much easier. Drain as much dirty oil as possible. It’s easiest done with an oil extractor. There are several on the market, but any in the West Marine catalog should suffice. Be sure to use the web coupon for 10% off the online price. When changing the oil filter, be sure the gasket comes off with the old filter. You’ll have some cleanup after you start the engine if you don’t.
Drain the gear lube from your drive (check your manual for your specific style of drive - Mercruiser, OMC and Volvo tend to differ). Re-fill gear lube reservoir. One tip given to me by a 40-year marine mechanic is to always replace the gaskets and o-rings when ready to re-fit the oil and vent plugs. Your particular drive may require a gear lube pump. These items are not expensive, but will save you money in the long run. Add in your West Marine savings coupon for extra savings.
Remove your propellers and examine them for nicks, or bends in the prop blades. Check the prop shaft. Grease the shaft with some quality, waterproof grease. Since security is sometimes an issue, take them home with you. I spend a cold winter day polishing them up in preparation for my spring boat launch.
Speaking of security, I also bought some outdrive locks from West Marine which has given me tremendous peace of mind while my boat is in storage. Apply your 10% savings coupon for a great deal.
Remove every drain plug on your engine, manifolds, coolers, heat exchangers, water pumps, and anything else that could have water in it (except the anti-freeze side of a closed cooling system). Run RV type antifreeze through all hoses until it comes out the other side of the block.
Disconnect your batteries. Best scenario would be to remove them and store them in a cool, dry place. If a battery replacement is needed, remember to save by using your 10% savings coupon at West Marine.
Be sure to winterize other parts of your boat. Head, shower, fresh water, and air conditioner should all be properly winterized.
You’ve just completed your boat winterization and we saved you at least 10% on your boat storage and winterizing supplies. These are steps to easy boat storage for the season and now you can relax while the snow flies and dream of your next trip on the water.

Rv water heater Systems

I turned on the water system in my RV this spring. I have hot water coming for a few seconds then Cold? Help?
Hot water heater is working fine. Hot water starts coming right away but then quits within seconds. Anyone have an Idea what might be wrong?
Sounds like the pilot light is the only thing working on the hot water heater..... The burner is not igniting therefore only a little hot water ( from the pilot light) is coming out.... You need to make sure that it is igniting the burner. Make sure that the knob is in the on position and not just the pilot position......

Start by emptying then flushing your holding tanks. If you are starting this while you are connected to a sewer hookup, you are all set. Otherwise you will need to find a dump station.
Next you will to drain your fresh water tank. The drain is located usually quite close to the fresh water fill location (not to be confused with the city water or hose connection). You may have to look under the trailer, in a storage cabinet or under a seat or bed in the RV.
While the fresh water tank is draining, take the plug out of your hot water heater. The most common type is a plastic plug. The easiest way to remove the plug is with a 7/8" socket and extension. Other types of plugs may require different tools. Leave the plug out for now. On the back of your water heater is the water heater bypass. Before bypassing your water heater, note the position of the valves. There may be between one and three valves depending on the type of bypass. The type or quantity doesn't matter, change all the valves to the opposite position.
If your water heater doesn't have a bypass, you will need to install a temporary bypass kit. This kit consists of a short hose and a couple of connectors. You will need to disconnect the two lines connected to the hot water heater and connect them to each other with the kit. If this is an RV that you are planning to keep for a few years you may want to consider installing a permanent water heater bypass kit.
Next look underneath your trailer for two protruding pipe stubs sticking straight down a couple inches apart. If you have them these are low point drains. If they are capped, remove the caps. If they are uncapped, then there is a valve you will need to open directly above them in a cabinet or under a seat. When finished close or recap the low point drains. A note of caution here, if the caps are black iron or copper instead of plastic you may have found the LP gas system instead of the low point drains.
If your RV does not have low point drains (many do not), it is recommended that you blow out your system with an air compressor. You will need a blow-out plug for this, you can get one from and RV dealer for $4 or so. If the air compressor is regularly used for any kind of air tools, make sure that the automatic oiler is bypassed or turned off. Set the complessor for 40 psi or use your water pressure regulator before the blow-out plug. Now have someone hold the air nozzle on the blow out plug while you go around to each faucet and open it until water stops coming out. Don't forget your toilet, shower, outside shower ice maker, etc.
Now you will need to pump non-toxic antifreeze through you water lines using your 12 water pump. Perhaps the simplest way to accomplish this is to dump 6 ot 8 gallons of anti-freeze into your fresh water system. You can save most of that by bypasssing the water tank. Take a look at your water pump. If you are unsure wheer it is, turn it on, open a faucet and listen. If you are lucky, your RV already has a pump winterizing kit installed (rare). If not you will need to disconnect the hose from the suction side of the pump and in most cases simply connect a three foot long piece if 1/2" hose (you may need to purchase $2 fitting).
Stick the suction hose directly into a jug of anti-freeze and turn the water pump on. One by one open the cold then the hot on each faucet until you have a steady flow of pink. Don't forget to lift the shower knob in the tub. Now Do the toilet, outside shower and any other water fixtures you have. Finally open the bypass valves until a little if the pink stuff runs out of the hot water heater. Turn the pump off when finished.
Put a cup of antifreeze in your sink and shower drains to winterize them. Wipe up any antifreeze left in plastic or fiberglass bowls or showers as it can stain if left there over the winter. Don't forget to put the plug back in the water heater and put a cap on your outside water connections to keep out bugs. That's it you are done!

Rv Water Heaters

Could I hook up a propane gas cylinderfor a grill or RV to my natural gas water heater?
Our gas main busted and we're looking at a few weeks for them to dig up my driveway to fix it. I know this would cost more but what all do I have to do? I've already pulled the line going to the water heater, and I have a lot of fittings, enough to make it hook up clean. That's not the issue. I'm just curious about how much regulation I should put to it, how long you think it would last, would it burn okay without putting off too much harmful gas and so on.
Let me know.
Anyone know of any good portable water heaters? Hopefully a 110 so I don't have to run a 220 to it.
Most water heater manufactures do not recommend converting them.
An improper field conversion from one type of gas to another could cause potentially dangerous conditions that may cause an explosion or fire resulting in property damage, bodily injury or both.
A.O. SMITH WILL ONLY ALLOW THE CONVERSION OF GAS WATER HEATERS FROM LP GAS (PROPANE) TO
NATURAL GAS. THE CONVERSION OF A GAS WATER HEATER FROM NATURAL GAS TO LP GAS (PROPANE) IS NOT ALLOWED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Hope it helps.

What are these called?
Sorry, I really don't know how to describe them so I drew a picture. One plugs in to the other. I need both of these for an igniter wire on my RV water heater. Does anyone know what they're called? Thanks.

Looks like wire terminal electrical connectors. You can get blade type crimp connectors with or without shroud at all hardware stores.
