onan generator Use Why does my 1955 Onan Power plant recommend 68-74 octane fuel and NOT to use premium?
I just purchased this little-used generator and after cleaning out the stale gas and filing the points it runs great! Would our current 87-89 octane unleaded be considered premium by 1955 standards? I plan to use as a standby this winter . Would you recommend the cheapest non-alcohol fuel possible? I will use it heavily in the spring/summer at a fishing cabin, what would happen if I used E85 during this time?
The octane number describes the fuels ability to resist detonation due to compression. The higher the number the more compression it can withstand. So putting a higher octane rated fuel in your engine should be just fine. Higher octane does not mean more energy in the fuel. As far as using e85, from what I have read I don't think that is a good idea. You will use more fuel because your engine does not have the compression to efficiently burn e85 and e85 is detrimental to fuel system parts that are not specifically designed for it. I would research this more if I were you.
Rv generator Use can rv generators be used to power homes in a power outage?
Absolutely. Just make sure you open the main breaker in your home's electrical panel before connecting any generator. Two issues can happen if you fail to do this: 1) You can send power back out onto the power lines and electrocute an un suspecting lineman 2) if utility power comes in direct contact with your generator, the generator may fight the utility caused by being out of phase. In this case, your generator WILL LOSE the battle and be damaged. Good luck, Be safe.
have solar panel and it's hooked up to two marine batts ?
that is on top of my rv it is connected to marine/rv batteries are solar batteries better to use ? my generator also charges the batteries so whats the pro's and con's of the two thanks for your time
Deep discharge marine batteries are fine.
The solar charger will only slowly charge the batteries, but cost nothing. The generator will quickly charge them, but at high cost. Use the solar panel when the sun is shining, and only use the generator to top up the batteries when needed. You may find the solar charger does little, because it charges so slowly.
suburban water 99 suburban has a water leak on the passengers side right above the valve cover.?
I am trying to figure out if this is a blown/crack head gasket, or the intake manifold. No smoke coming from the tail pipe but it does have a little water dripping. Any help trying to figure this out? Thanks Just a little dripping. It could be condensation but just not sure. I can see water spraying out from the top corner of the valve cover. I just changed the oil and from what I've read, if it was a head gasket my oil would be milky. Oil is normal.
if water is dripping from your exhaust then more than likely its a blown head gasket....define water dripping"a little bit which could be condensation"or constant dripping even when engine is fully warmed up
Not everyone lives in a big city or even the suburbs and for those who live in rural areas, but still want to experience the benefit of clean water, it is important to understand how home water filtration works.
In rural areas, it is common for people to rely on the availability of home water. However, there can be serious problems over the quality and drinkability of home water that could lead many people to look to a home filtration system in order to make sure they protect the health of themselves and their family.
While sometimes the purity of well H2o can be very good, sometimes the water is contaminated with bacteria. This most commonly happens when a septic field or surface water makes its way into the water source before the home water is filtered by the soil. When this is a possibility, it is necessary for home water filtration to be installed so the homeowner can enjoy and use clean water.
A home water filtration is a little more advanced than a typical water filtration system used in a suburban or urban residence. Typically, those water filtration systems are simply making sure impurities are removed. Since the home water is a little more "raw" in form, it is necessary for the home water filtration system to be more advanced and more thorough.
There are components to a home water filtration system and it is important for the home water to flow through in a specific order. The components and necessary steps to getting clean home water are: the water first must flow through a home pump and into the pressure tank, from there it should go through the water softening process, through a 5 micron filter, through an ultraviolet purifier, and then into the water heater. If any of these steps are skipped, it could affect the quality and drinkability of the water.
As with any filtration system, it is necessary for a homeowner to provide proper maintenance on the home water filtration system in order to make sure it works correctly. For instance, when the system is installed, it is important to stay vigilant and check for leaks, this won't harm a person's health but it will harm their wallet. Also, it is necessary to make sure that the bulb in the ultraviolet light portion of the purifier is working. If this ever goes out, the water will not be purified.
Home water filtration systems can give those who live in the country peace of mind that their water is clean.
power Grip generator How reliable is 'bi' pedal-powered electricity generator?
I was thinking of two places where I could save some $ when idle or sitting in chair by the computer desk and the other one being either a... pedal-like electricity generator or a... wheel-like generator with hand-grip for car battery charger without having another vehicle to power up the dead battery.
Sounds totally silly but just too curious to let it pass. I figure having a standard BICYCLE power generator would take up a huge space so I thought of attaching a bi-pedal onto hardwood floor under my desk.
you would find that pedaling hard enough to properly light up a standard 100 watt bulb was more work than you'd like to do. Most folks just don't realize how much energy is found in electricity, or gasoline.

Golf Tips-How To Make A Solid Golf Grip And Good Set-Up
A solid golf swing begins with a good grip, you need a grip that conducts and mutiplys the forces created by the body in order to make a freeflowing swing. If you run the grip to high in the palm,it could lead to a massive loss of mobility in the left wrist. When you lay the club in the left hand make sure the grip sits low in the in the fingers. The left thumb should sit down the right of the centre line as you look down. When holding the the club the v between thumb and forefinger should be pointing between the chin and right shoulder.Again i cant stress enough about the grip fitting low in the fingers of the right hand, while the thumb and forefinger engage to create the 'Trigger',which gives you a terrific sense of feel in the swing.Remember to keep the hand pressure even even, the two hands should work together as a unit, getting you speed in the swing. After the grip comes posture,set-up and creating a good angle in the body.If you look at the professionals on tv,one of the reasons why they generate so much speed and power is that they have made a stable platform that feels grounded. With the stable platform and their posture balanced on the balls of their feet, they use this feeling to to wind and unwind their body.A good drill to get that feeling is to take a golf club, press down on top of the club with your arms out whilst flexing the knees, pushing the rear out and bending from the hips. This should help get a feeling of what a good set-up should feel like.

Electrician Please - Outdoor lights worked.....Now They don't?
We installed 4 - 400 watt outdoor lights that have been working great for the past couple weeks. A few days ago one of the lights went out. It was replaced yesterday and some of the lights were adjusted to point at different angles and now none of the lights will come on. As I said we are running them off a generator and it has a 30 amp rv plug that we are connected to. It is running to a fusable switch/disconnect with a 30amp fuse in it and all of the lights are connected together. Could a loose ground or neutral cause all of the lights to go out? And what else could cause none of them to come on. Also, when we flip the switch the generator is bogging down but we have tested the generator and it is not the problem. Also replaced the fuse in the switch and that didn't help. Has to be in the wiring so just need to know what could cause this so I know where to start checking. Thanks!
Yes a loose neutral or hot connection could cause all of the lights to go out. Possibly when you adjusted the direction of the lights a wire pulled tighter inside the box and pulled loose. I would just turn it off, or unplug it from the generator and check all the connections. If the generator is bogging down and these lights are the only thing connected to it then I would suspect something has shorted or your have a low impedance between hot and neutral or hot and ground. So unplug it from the generator and check the voltage at its outlet to make sure it is correct then check the fusable disconnect and make sure the fuse is still good, then check each of the lights.

Want To Make A Solar Panel For Your RV?
A Recreational Vehicle (RV) gives you independence from hotel bookings and allows you to change your journey at will. In theory you can drive anywhere you want, but often you are restricted to available camp sites because you need somewhere to recharge your batteries. Even if you use your batteries to power on-board appliances they will need recharging from time to time – usually more often than you had planned! And be warned, regularly draining a battery will shorten its life considerably. But there is an option available that will give you true flexibility to go where you want, and you can make it yourself easily and cheaply.
Most RVs have on-board generators, but these tend to be noisy and smelly. These days solar panels are often fitted to provide all or most of your electrical requirements without hammering your battery, and these panels are very easy to make at home, even for the total novice. If you have a generator you can keep it as a backup – much less wearing on the ears and pocket. Keep it for powering the lights at your next backyard party!
Mobile solar panels can be easily stored if foldable, and they tend to be quite lightweight so are easily moveable too. A single 4ft x 2 ft solar panel will generate about 75 to 100 watts, which is about the same as a pair of golf cart batteries. This would probably be sufficient for a typical 24ft RV but it would depend, of course, on your personal electrical requirements. Most RVs use less than 400 watts. Perhaps start with a couple of solar panels, and fit some more as needed. You can get more information about this here.
If you plan to use your RV regularly in hot weather, you will have one or two other things to consider. You will need to fit a solar-powered battery charger with battery temperature compensation to reduce the danger of damaging your batteries. Also, roof-mounted solar panels can get very hot, which can affect their efficiency and can lead to voltage drops. Ensure that your solar panels have a rating of at least 17 volts to stop this becoming a problem. Just keep these thoughts in mind when planning your RV's solar panel system.
You will see a range of kits for RV solar panels on the market, but note how costly they are. We thoroughly recommend the make-it-yourself route. It is easy and fun and well within the competence of every oxygen-breathing adult, even the ham-fisted ones! And much cheaper than buying a kit.
What you will need, however, is expert advice before you start to build a solar panel, otherwise you could end up with a system that does not work properly or even at all. Don’t worry, professional advice and step-by-step instructions are readily available if you know the right source, and only cost a few bucks. We believe this is a good investment.
