generac generator Gas Tank
What size propane tank do i need to run a 16kw generator for 5 days?
generac air cooled 15/16 kw ....owners manual says natural gas = 173@half load, 245@full load and propane=1.59/59@half load,2.51/92@full load...nat gas is in cubic ft,lp is in gallons per hour/cubic ft....so with lp(propane) how big of a tank(gallons) do i need to run at half load for 5 days?
While Jeff's math is correct as far as consumption, there are some properties of propane that come into play here..
First you need to understand how a propane container functions. It is not just a storage device. It is also a vapourizer. When the generator is not running, you have static liquid in the tank with a vapour space above it. When the generator starts up, you are drawing off vapour and burning that. This lowers the pressure in the container and the liquid begins to boil to replace the vapour. Propane boils at -44 degrees F, so the liquid needs to absorb heat from somewhere to maintain the boiling process. It does that from the mass of the container and the air around it. You may have seen propane tanks covered in frost or even ice in relatively mild temperatures. This is because the tank is too small to vapourize enough propane to meet the demand of the appliance it is connected to.
Sooo...after all that! You need to size the tank to the heat load of the appliance, not just to how many hours of burn time you want on site. It depends partially on where you live. If you're in Florida where temperatures are fairly mild, you don't need as big a tank as you would in northern Minnesota. As the ambient air temperature drops the ability to produce vapour diminishes.
Based on all that, I will offer you my suggestion. A 16kW generator will need at least 3 123 gallon tanks connected to it or (preferably) a 500 gallon horizontal tank to run properly. Especially if it is going to run nonstop for 5 days!
2.5 GPH is equivelant to 230,000 btu's. at 70 degrees a 123 only produces 200,000 btu's at 50% full.a 500 gallon will give you 900,000. That's a bit of overkill, but it certainly wont give you any problems!
I hope this helps! ( sorry to be so long winded, but you I wanted to explain my reasoning! )

Coleman generator Gas Tank
I have a gas generator..should I run it and let the gas run out or leave gas in at all times?
Coleman gas generator. Should I keep gas in it or run it and let it run dry? I left gas in for over a year it it wouldnt start so i had to get it serviced..they tuned it up now i have it back w/ about 2 gallons of gas in threre..its 5 gallon tank..5500 watt generator.
you can keep the gas in the gen but put sta bull in the gas and run it for 15 to 30 min till it goes through the system you can then store it for a few months.if you do not want to add the additive you can start your gen once a month for 5 min or so and things should remain in good shape.People don't realize that gas setting in a carb for a long time without being ran or putting an additive in,the carb will varnish up and then comes the expense of a carb rebuild.

Gas Tank

How do you disconect the fuel lines from the gas tank on a 91 Mercury Grand Marquis?
I am trying to remove the gas tank so I can use the car in a demolition derby. I have dropped the tank, but it is still dangling because the two fuel lines that go from the engine to the fuel pump are still connected. I have tried pulling and twisting as hard as I can, but I cant undo the connections. I would like to keep these fuel lines intact so I can still use them for the relocated tank.
Quick-connect (push type) fuel line fittings must be disconnected using proper procedure or the fitting may be damaged. There are two types of retainers used on the push connect fittings. Line sizes of 3/8 and 5/16 in. diameter use a hairpin clip retainer. The 1/4 in. diameter line connectors use a duck-bill clip retainer. In addition, some engines use spring-lock connections, secured by a garter spring, which require Ford Tool T81P-19623-G (or equivalent) for removal. You can get this at most Autozone stores.

You may be wondering, "How can you remove a dent from a motorcycle tank?" It's a good question, and one that has puzzled many people over the years. Specialists in this area of dent removal have got it down to a fine art these days. Their dent removal techniques are just like magic.
How can you remove a dent from a motorcycle tank? By going inside to push out, or by going outside to pull out, either way the dent gets removed.
Motorcycle gas tanks have their caps on the top, usually at the highest point. That way they can be filled to the maximum. Unfortunately, the gas caps on motorcycle tanks are not large openings.
Some motorcycle gas tanks are double skinned. It's a bit like having a tank inside a tank. This kind of gas tank makes it difficult to remove the dent from the inside as you will be applying pressure to the inside metal skin, and not the outside metal skin where the dent actually is.
However, if the tank has a single wall, or metal skin, then the job becomes very easy. Well, easy in the hands of an expert at least. The first thing done is to attach an object a bit like a flag onto the tank. This has a flexible mounting that can be adjusted to any angle, and at the end is a rectangular flag-like card with parallel black lines running the length of it on a white background.
This is a very clever idea. The "flag" is reflected in the shiny paintwork of the motorcycle gas tank. If the tank is in perfect factory condition, then the reflected black lines will all be smooth. If on the other hand the tank is dented, then the reflected lines will converge, balloon and be distorted where the reflected dent is. This is important!
As the dent is massaged and caressed from the inside, using a special tool designed for removing dents in motorcycle gas tanks, the reflected black lines in the region of the dent will become less and less ballooned and distorted. By the time the technician has completely removed the entire dent, the reflection will be smooth and perfect.
Of course, the actual surface of the motorcycle tank is constantly checked as well for smoothness. But the reflections of the black lines is arguably the best visual and actual guide as to the presence or otherwise of the dent. Properly performed, the dent will vanish completely and the repair will be wholly invisible. That's the mark of a good motorcycle dent removal - nothing left to see.
The days of answering the question of, "How can you remove a dent from a motorcycle tank?" by removing the tank, rubbing it down, or removing the paint with stripper completely, then applying filler, rubbing that down before re-spraying the entire thing has all but gone.
Today's expert technicians use paintless dent removal techniques. They attempt to leave the original factory paint exactly as it is. They also attempt to remove the dent with leaving a mark, and more often than not they succeed.

Aluminum Gas Tank

Hydrogen generaotr that runs a car?
have been working on this for awhile and created a device that creates more then enough hydrogen to run a car. It fits into your gas tank and it consumes aluminum wire and water. you fill the gas tank with water and with some minor modifications to the fuel injection computer and tubing and slight modifications to the trunk so you can feet a spool of aluminum welding wire (I used a 1999 saturn SL2) and I used a small brass tank for excess hydrogen storage with a pressure gage to stop the generator when it hits a certianl pressure. I found i can run the car just as if I did with gasoline. I was able to cruise the Highway at around 90 MPH with a problem and no hesitation on take off and good acceleration. My question is do you think I could market this? is there truely a market for it? Are there any grants from the gov't for alternative energy inventors? Would anyone be willing to help me? I feel this is the safe way to ahve my questions answered.
i don't know i don't get your question
