Where Do You Store Your Brew?
If you were to ask most folks where they keep their beer, you'd get a very odd look, followed by "in the refrigerator." Others might respond that they have a fridge in their game room, or a second refrigerator in the garage just for that purpose. How many people can claim they keep it beside their recliner in their living room, though (without it getting warm)? Well, if the folks over at ManTables.com have anything to say about it, more people will be able to answer that way very soon.
Storing your beer properly means keeping it cool, out of direct sunlight (don't want to damage that flavor!), and safe from marauding kids and your pesky brother-in-law. Usually, that means not storing it in your living room floor. However, with the right storage solution, you can do just that – these unique "man tables" look just like an end table, but pull down the handle and – hey presto – they're actually a mini refrigerator. They even have real wood and high quality hardware accents.
Of course, if you don't mind getting up during the game, then there are other options out there. One of the most interesting is the countertop beer cooler and tap from Hammacher Schlemmer. This is perfect for those small kegs (it holds a 5-liter keg), and keeps you from having to store it in the refrigerator (your wife will be happy to have her space back). With an LCD screen showing you the exact temperature of your beer, you never have to worry about warm beer again. It can even adjust all the way down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit (or as high as 52 degrees if you prefer).
Interestingly, the countertop cooler even has both AC and DC power adaptors, which means you can take it with you when you travel, and is perfect for using on a boat or in an RV. You can even alter the carbonation from the keg using the built-in controls on the cooler.
There are other innovations on the horizon, as well. Just recently, an innovative young man actually transformed his mini-fridge into a beer cannon capable of lobbing a beer (of your choice) directly to you. The entire rig is controlled via his iPhone, as was featured on Engadget and several other tech/news sites on the Internet. There is even a built-in webcam on the beer cannon to help you aim the toss perfectly every time.
