From Smog to Cheap Gas

Hard as it is to believe it now, back in the 1970s cities like Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco had such poor air quality that it was putting the health of their residents in jeopardy. Children and babies were being increasingly diagnosed with respiratory diseases, especially asthma.

The government of California recognized that the main contributor to pollution in its cities was motor vehicle exhaust emissions. They had constructed spaghetti-like freeways to manage the huge volume of traffic caused by commuters travelling to and from major centers. Cheap gas was available and the car-pooling trend had not yet taken hold.

It was decided to make the big oil companies responsible for the emissions caused by their product. The Government made it clear that if the oil companies, like Shell and Chevron, wanted to sell their gasoline in California, they would need to make it burn more effectively and to cause less pollution.

This was not such a chore for the oil companies. They had developed the technology to do this years before, but chose not to introduced it to everyday customers. If cars burned fuel more effectively, they would get more miles per gallon of gas. It follows that people need to fill up less often. With reduced sales gasoline company profits go down.

What the petroleum manufacturers did was change the formulation only enough to comply with the government regulators. They then adjusted and tweaked their product to create alternate ones: plus, premium, regular etc and they char more accoringly for these.

We can all now use this great technology to its full potential. We can all reformulate our gasoline to create own own 'premium' product. And what's more, it is easy to do, and it is very inexpensive. Not only will you increase your fuel economy of around 19% (that's a whopping 80 cents per gallon at today's fuel prices) - for a 10 gallon tank that's around an $8 saving. So while you still pay the same price at the pump, your tankfull will last longer. That is impressive fuel economy.

The product that gives this great result, Ethos Fuel Reformulator, works in any internal combustion engine - cars, buses, trucks, RVs, trains, generators etc. Gasoline or diesel, it doesn't matter.

Around 20% of the gas you buy is not used by your engine - it goes straight out the tail pipe as carbon waste. This is because gasoline is a very dense compound. By adding the reformulator we provide a mechanism to spread the gasoline particles apart, making them burn better.

As well as getting cheaper gas, users of this ground-breaking product save loads of money on engine maintenance because the esters in the product clean and lubricate the engine, virtually eliminating friction and wear and tear on parts.

Don't be confused though. Ethos is not one of those 'fuel additives' found it automotive shops. With these you need to use a whole bottle every time you fill up, and they do nothing to improve your engine's fuel efficiency. It is a fuel reformulator, and you use only one ounce of it per tank-full, so one bottle should last the average car owner 3-4 months.

Reducing exhaust emissions from vehicles is the responsiblity of each one of us. Adopting better driving habits and using a fuel reformulator are some things that we can all start doing today.

if i lived in an rv how much would it cost monthly?

my boyfriend and i are living in st.Louis Missouri area, and we are wanting to find out if its cheaper being in an apartment, paying 215 a month on all utility paid apartment i don't really know how much on gas in the car, food is 200, wouldn't change, and were about to have a baby, would it be cheaper to pay monthly on an RV attaches to the back of a car, we wouldn't be paying for parking, but how much would the propane be, or a generator, and electricity?

Living in a RV - or as you have put it "a trailer" would be a living nightmare. If your costs are only 215 now, it would cost a lot more if you needed Gas to run a generator, and cooking in a trailer is fraught with danger, as you must move pots/pans - dishes and whatnot, without adequate counter space. You would have to fill up on water for your "toilet" and pay to dump it - if you get caught dumping into the sewer - its' a nasty fine. Taking a shower in a RV is a real experience, you have barely 24x24 - if you have long legs or arms, it thump thump thump on the sides. If you don't believe me, try shopping at the local RV centers. If it suits you - then go ahead. Its really easy to sell a used trailer (RV has a engine in front)

The image of a large, dark-blue panel atop a rooftop supplying solar-powered electricity is now familiar. Though relatively few homes have them, thousands of magazine stories have been written over the past 30 years accompanied by photos depicting them. Because of their relative rarity, such systems have become regarded as 'the wave of the future', with that future always just out of reach. The sticking points are always solar energy panels cost and efficiency.

But there are dozens of cost-effective solar-panel applications available today.

Lawn lights are a popular example. They come in the form of stakes about a foot long with lights mounted on the stake. On the top of the light are small solar energy panels. They don't generate much power, but not much is needed for them to do the job. They can be quickly placed anywhere since they require no wires. They can last for years without any maintenance since they use no batteries and the bulbs are ultra-long lasting.

Calculators that are purely solar powered have been in use for decades now. But that same technology has recently been expanded to encompass laptops. Though they don't currently generate enough power to run a standard hard drive or monitor, solar power has been combined with new inventions to make that unnecessary. They use something called organic cells.

A standard solar cell uses layered wafers of silicon doped with phosphorus. But other elements and more complex molecules are also subject to the photoelectric effect. Many organic molecules will shoot off electrons when struck with light. They're not currently as efficient, but they make up for it by being flexible and super cheap. They can be incorporated into certain inexpensive plastic alloys.

That makes it possible to make an affordable keyboard or monitor that can be folded or rolled-up. With this technology, it's possible to roll up a computer like a newspaper and tuck it in your pocket. Then, it's unrolled when you want to use it and powered by the available light.

There are yet many more applications that can be powered by a solar system. One common use is electrical fencing. Whether you need to power a dog retainer system or a cattle barrier, low voltage systems are often used to keep animals in check. A small stun doesn't harm, but it's often enough to keep them from wandering outside the perimeter. Many can jump over standard fencing, but electrifying the system discourages the attempt.

Powered boats, like cars, have batteries that start the engine and power small electrical devices when the motor is off. Running lights, speedometer and more. But those batteries need to be recharged after use. In the usual case, the running motor recharges the battery, putting back the power needed to start it.

But, clearly, the fact that battery chargers exist means that method doesn't always work. However, when you're out on the water, and in many cases even when you're near the shore, it's difficult or impossible to use a standard charger. Electrical outlets aren't universal in docks and nowhere on the water. A solar-powered charger can come in handy just when you need it most.

That same charger can recharge the battery in your RV just as easily. But beyond that emergency use, a solar-powered system can be useful for an RV in lots of ways.

Many times an RV is stationary, with its motor off. Some have generators to power the RV at those times. But generators are noisy and consume gasoline or diesel, producing foul smelling fumes. Not exactly what you want when you're outdoors enjoying the fresh air. A solar power system can supply at least part of the energy needed. It can run a radio, power a DVD and/or TV, or a small refrigerator.

Electricity generation isn't the only possible application either. Water heating is a popular home-oriented application for solar power.

Small parabolic dishes can be used to focus the sun's energy into a small area. That energy is then transmitted to a water storage system. Not all such systems are solely for inside the house either. The hot water supplied can be used to bathe the dogs outside or provide an alternative to washing the car with cold water.

In fact, any kind of washing chore is usually easier with warm water and water from the hose gets cold quickly. A solar heating system can provide a reservoir of warm water to wash the exterior of the windows, supply a sink in the garage and other uses around the house and garage.

Solar energy panels systems today are more efficient and lower cost than ever. They provide freedom from dependence on the utility companies for all your electrical and hot water needs. That makes them a good deal.

Where can I find cheap camping in Southern California with Toilets and Showers?

I was just looking at Silverwood Lake. They want $35-$45 just to pitch a tent. Then I know I'm going to be over run with RV's with generators till 10PM. This is very frustrating. I could find some cheap motel and a lot more privacy for that.

Where can I find inexpensive camping in Southern California that doesn't charge cheap motel prices for tent sites but offers good bathrooms and showers?

Your options are limited to whats available going rates for general camp sites in the so cal area are $20+ a few can be found at under $20 on the outskirts of so cal in the desert regions and if your willing to primitive camp at a dispersed area the cost would be the annual parking pass $5 a day $30 for the year.

Near Silver-wood lake in the back country along 2N33 or pilot rock road a 4WD route you can camp anywhere along it's route with the pass.

North of Silver-wood lake is Apple-white campground in the lytle creek area $10-15 a night no showers though.

Some private parks in the area such as Mountain lakes resort are even higher than Silver-wood lake.

Supply and demand drives the price of full service campgrounds way up and only a handful in the so cal public parks have showers, these all are $25+ a night. It is still cheaper than a hotel and I challenge you to find any in the area that are less than $50 a night. Cabin rentals in the area are triple that per night.
