The short answer to this Q&A is "yes", a simple DC/AC inverter should run your DVD/LCD combo. Just make sure the inverter is a good-enough one that smooths out the usual saw-tooth AC waveform on the 110V output (the cheaper ones, made for lights and small electric razors, etc., have a pretty rough output & might not have a clean enough sine-wave AC for video/audio gadgets).
You shouldn't need to splice any of your TV's wires (a correct model inverter will have a 3-prong AC wall outlet). If your RV has no generator nor convenient access to whatever 12volts runs the ceiling lights, then yes, a careful patch cable from the inverter's DC input to your 12VDC lighting circuit is the best way. Just be cautious about running-down your car battery, if the RV doesn't have its own.

This is probably very silly and basic as I am new to RV's. The outlets don't work if the generator is turned off but work fine the second it is turned on. The lights and other things work when the generator is off. I am hoping it is something very basic. The batteries are new and the generator itself was checked out by a mechanic.
