Try closing, or partially closing, registers in rooms where the AC is not needed as much. This will help direct more cold air into your room.
Also, make sure that any vents in the basement are closed. Basements are generally cooler anyway and don't require AC.
Oh yeah, and make sure your register isn't cluttered with dust or dirt…I see this a lot.

you mean the air coolers with humidifiers? i just got one, and it's hecka better than a regular fan.
My dad used to have a car with an air conditioner that had an “economy” setting. He always had it set on economy. When it was hot, I'd suggest that dad take it off the economy setting until the car cooled off. He always insisted that the economy setting didn't make any difference in how well or how fast the air conditioner could cool the car, it was just more efficient. He couldn't explain to me why, if he was right, there was a non-economy setting, but it didn't seem to bother him.
