What amp do i need for my RV generator?
I have an 89' Travelcraft Ford E350 28ft. do I need 30,50,...?
Check the connector at the end of the cord. Many RVs with an air conditioner will use a 30A connector to plug in at a camp site. There are also adapters which will convert this to a standard 15A plug. Using the adapter with the A/C system running will likely trip the circuit breaker.
If you wish to power everything in the RV you will need a generator capable of supplying 30A continuously. This would be 3600 watts minimum. Startup current for the A/C system would likely exceed this so I'd suggest nothing less than a 4kW generator with up to at least 5kW startup capability. Ensure the generator can supply this power at 120VAC. Many will supply power at 120V/240V, with only half available at each 120V output. Some generators have a selector switch to provide full 120V power, others may need minor internal rewiring.
