RV Engine & generator turn over but won't start?


Help! We're stuck on vacation in a rental RV, and so far haven't found a garage to work on it yet.

The gas guage shows about 1/4 tank of gas, but neither the engine, nor the generator, which both run off of the unleaded gas tank will start. They turn over, but won't start.

We are in Vail, so relatively high altitude, and the temperature outside is probably between 70-85.

The temp guage reads normal on the engine, and the battery level is OK (but getting lower with our starting attempts).

I figure since both the generator and the engine won't start it must be related to the fuel and tank area, and not the engine & transmission, as those probably wouldn't affect the generator.

Any ideas to try or know any good mobile mechanics in the Vail area?

Sounds like it could be the fuel pump, or a fuse to the fuel system. Or even a relay. Good luck.

RV Generators, 4.0 onan bfa genset, how does fuel pump operate? How much gas does fuel tank need?


trying to start generator, cranks over but does not start.

sorry i didn't see this question earlier. You need to have at over 1/4 tank before the gen will crank. if you have enough gas then take your fuel line off the carb and make sure it getting gas. that should be the problem.

    We need to drive more and care less about alternative fuels. The Lord Above Almighty put fossil fuels on this earth for us to consume. If Jesus was alive today he would be driving a lowered and pimped-out Cadillac Escalade.

    Yes to fossil fuels and NO to hippy energy!

    The key reason why I suggested propellant transfer instead of tank transfer is the increased flexibility. Like i already discussed elsewhere, for all the pros that propellant transfer has over dockable tanks, theres at least one drawback: your transfer stage, including its fuel tank, will be limited by payload size of largest available launcher on the market.As anything heading from LEO to lunar soft landing will be approximately six parts propellant and one part payload this is a significant limitation.
