Rv Battery Trickle charger
My RV is parked outside all year long where the temp can reach zero degrees F. My question: Am I doing any
harm to my deep cell battery if I put a trickle (1 amp) charger on it full time, or is that a waste of time?
Even a one-amp trickle charger can overcharge a battery or even boil it dry if left on too long.
Other hand, a battery will self-discharge (albeit much more slowly in subfreezing weather), and storing a battery in a discharged state will kill it prematurely.
The best way to store a battery is with an automatic charger that tops the battery off when needed, and has a "float mode" that maintains a constant 100 to 300 milliamp current. You can leave it on that 24/7. I got one at Sam's Club for under $50.
