According to the manufacturer's website that unit uses R22 refrigerant. It can only be recharged by an EPA certified HVAC tech. You might be able to save a little money by finding a local trade school to work on it. Otherwise, find an air conditioning contractor that will let you drop the unit off and save yourself a trip charge.
Brandon - The two refrigerants aren't compatible. They operate at different design pressures and temperatures, and the oils required for both refrigerants also aren't compatible with each other. R134a was designed to ultimately replace R12, which was common in automotive air conditioning and refrigeration applications. I'm afraid you'll have a whole host of problems if you blend the two.

Maybe they want to see the sales/feedback prior changing all controllers. That and it gives them time to clear stores and charge a little extra from early adopters (technically its the same price as the current controller bundled with recharge kit, but I suspect only few people buy this combination).
