generator For Pop Up Camper
What size generator do I need for small pop up camper that sleeps 6 people its a 1972 venture?
the camper only has 3 110 plugs and a small ice box right now and one little light. It also has a gas stove so I wouldn't need it to cook either. I want to get an air conditioner and a small dorm refergerator for it.
The thre plugs is double plug ins so it's a total of 6 110 plug ins. We will be also using a 13 inch tv and dvd player.
lol.. I thought you were going camping? I'd recommend getting a 3000 watt generator that produces at least 2600 watt running power if you're going to run a small Air conditioner (12000 btu or less) then you'll need this much power. Be sure and look at the sound rating . anything less than 62 should be fine while camping if you have a longer cord to get the generator away from the camper. The hottest generators on the market right now are the Honda eu3000. they are very dependable and very quiet. They are a bit high in price ($1500.00) but will last for years to come. You can also use it at home when your power fails. Ebay sells them a little cheaper and you don't have to pay sales tax.

What kind of generator do I need for 1998 Coleman pop up camper?
It really depends upon what you plan on running off of it.
If your popup has an air conditioner or just some low wattage 110v lights it will make a difference in the size of the unit that would do you best. Getting one that can run a lot but only has a little draw on it is a waste of fuel and not good for the Genset. I have found it optimum to get a unit that is no more than 80% and no less than 50% of the estimated peak requirement.

Hi Dennis,
I remember stopping at Rawlings Wyoming for the night in the 3rd week in June 1980 and asking where the local KOA was at. The gas station attendant looked at me, my 3 young kids (2 in diapers) and the pop up camper we where hauling and says “Your not thinking of camoing out tonight are you?”
Heh Yeah I was why?
“Well as soon as the sun goes down in another hour the temp will be going down to 32 or lower!”
OOps? LOL

The 3000 lbs capacity would be for the towing package, which it sounds like your car doesn't have.
A mid-sized car (including your Taurus) should tow 2000 lbs with the right hitch (a class 2). I think you can tow your camper with your LaSabre. My family towed a pop-up with a 1988 Taurus wagon with the 3.0L V6 [140 hp] plus five people and all their stuff on board.
My dad's Grand Marquis does not have a tow package, but with it could have been rated for 5000 pounds. It is actually rated for 2000 lbs the way it is. We put a class 4 hitch on it and towed our 5000 lb camping trailer with it. It worked, but my dad bought a Suburban for longer trips afterwards. The Grand Marquis handles a utility trailer with two snowmobiles on it with no problem.
When in doubt, check the owner's manual. However, 2000 lbs, when properly equipped, is normal for a mid-sized sedan. Go for the heavier of the hitches. A class 2 hitch is rated for 2000 lbs and should do the job for you.
