generac generator Schematic

I have a generac 8000xls?

generator and it runs like a champ. the issue is that it does not generate any electricity. I have been told it needs to be flashed, exited, repolarized. I have found that they all are the samething. I do not have the owners manual and can not seem to find any schematics online. I have had it at 2 different shops, who both said it probably needs to be flashed but would not work on it with out a schematic. anyone know how to do this or have a schematic?

The 1st thing to do is remove the rear plastic cover ( unit off ). You will see a set of brushes riding on a set of slip rings. two wires slip onto brushes, write down the numbers and relation on brushes ( do not mix them up, one is pos. and one is neg.) One should be number 6 and I am not sure if the other is 2 or 4???
The safest is to do a static flash. Take a 12 volt battery and jumper to the brushes. Place the positive lead to the closest brush to you. the negative of course is more inboard. If you see a small arc its perfect it means the rotor is good. hold it for 5 sec. put the wires back on and see if it works. If not you will have to do the same thing with the thing running.
There should be a small circuit board right by the brushes, that's the voltage regulator. They go bad alot, approx. $60.00. There is also a control board inside the control panel, this can prevent the gen from making power also approx. $250.00.
Almost forgot check both brushes. remove the little assembly when you have the wires off. If they look ok check the slip rings they ride on, if they look really black, a pensil eraser works to clean the slip rings. Good luck. (only a generac shop can check your boards)
Or call 1-800 generac and see if you can buy generacs rotor and stator troubleshooting manual, it has the procedure for checking the boards.
