You're correct. An extra $100-$200 per year can get expensive. If you have a 10 year life on the unit, that's an added $1,000 to $2,000 over the life of the unit.I had a heat pump, never had it serviced. It worked faithfully for 11 years, then quit. Cost to make the repair = $465. It's still working after 15 years. So I saved about $800 by not getting it serviced. The 2x yearly service call is strictly an income generating channel for the company. But it really boils down to "Do you want to take the risk or not?"By the way, I've yet to find an AC technician that REALLY knows how to fix an AC/Heat Pump unit. The above heat pump I had required 3 different techs before one found the problem. They all added freon and called it a fix. That same AC tech that fixed my heat pump failed to fix my daughter's AC. Heat Pumps and AC operate the same way. They teach techs in school that if this fails, replace that. If that fails, replace this. If it doesn't cool or ices up, add freon. They are not taught how to TROUBLESHOOT before making repairs. If you have a low freon level, find the leak first before adding freon.

It's extortion, but if not done, they don't have to honor the warranty. This is not coincidence you have just been blessed by an abundance of input from grandma. Hope you happy about baby; you will have your ups and downs but she be fine.Except the yahoo ads on the side bar. They pick up key words in your questions and try to match ads to your interests; nothing to do with Grandma.Blessings on you and family, Miss Zoe.

Yes Dear,
It all fit together nice like a puzzle doesn't it.
